La conferenza dedicata all’Invenzione come motore dello sviluppo sociale (1902) è una delle testimonianze più complete della teoria dell’invenzione sociale elaborata da Gabriel Tarde. In questo saggio vengono esaminati i principi metafisici e sociologici (variazione e ripetizione, invenzione e imitazione) su cui questa teoria si fonda, rimettendo infine in discussione il dogma storiografico del preteso “individualismo” metodologico dell’autore.
